Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Mercer

Richard Kohn

Richard (Dick) Kohn was the consummate Jewish community leader. He was deeply committed to building and sustaining an active, vibrant Princeton Mercer Bucks Jewish community.

Dick was a graduate of Harvard University and Harvard Law School. Following a stint in the Armed Forces he returned to Trenton to practice law.

Dick served as a Trustee first of the Mercer Bucks Federation and then of the Princeton Mercer Bucks Federation for more than 40 years. He served as Vice President and Investment Committee chair of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Mercer for many years, working to build the assets of the Foundation and create sustainability for local Jewish organizations.

He was on the Board of Greenwood House and served as its Finance Committee chair. He was involved as well with the Jewish Community Center and Jewish Family & Children’s Service particularly when that agency was working to resettle Jewish immigrants from the former Soviet Union.

Dick was recognized multiple times by the Jewish community for his leadership and generosity. He was the 1993 recipient of the Jewish Federation Community Service Award, the 1995 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award and again in 2000 the Jewish Federation Community Service Award.

Each of these awards was a testament to Dick’s unwavering support both financially and through his volunteer efforts to his dedication and commitment to the Princeton Mercer Bucks Jewish community.

Dick also participated as a Board member in local community charities such as the Mercer Medical Center Foundation and the Boys Club of Trenton.
